ESSAY COMPETITION

Introduction:

Today, we live in a global village where we cannot live without communicating with one another. Communication and Expression have thus, become a necessity in this world. Throughout history, mankind used language to satisfy this vital need so as to aware, present, express and advertise his thoughts and opinions.
This year, Tamasha reaches out to you to offer a unique and unparalleled opportunity to quench your thirst of writing out your experiences coupled with an atmosphere of competition and enthusiasm. You have the opportunity to bring out the talent that is within you like a hidden treasure. The quest to expose that treasure and to use it for the betterment of us all continues here at Tamasha 10.

Format:

There will be two events this year. One is the conventional bilingual essay writing (i.e. English and Urdu). While the other event is fictional/creative writing, in which only English will be the medium of writing.

Essay Competition:

Purpose/Objectives:

  • To explore and bring out talent throughout Pakistan
  • To enhance the writing capabilities of the participating students
  • To initiate an event which starts a thought-process by expressing opinions on random topics

Theme of Essay:

  • - Theme of the essay will be given to the participants on the spot.

Time Duration:

  • There will be two rounds of evaluation. Candidates in round one will be allocated with    1 hour & 15 min time limit. While those selected for round two will be given 1 hour & 45 min to wrap up their work. This scheme applies for both mediums of writing (i.e. English or Urdu).

Content Limit

  • The content limit for round one is around 400 to 500 words. While for round two, it is from 900 to 1200 words.

Prize

  • The prize money along with shields and certificates will be distributed among the promising candidates, at the end of the competition

Creative Writing

Purpose/Objectives:

  • Broadening the students perspective and take on life.
  • Providing a platform to seek the inner light and enter a point in time where fictional characters roam astray.
  • Creating a virtual world, purest in its essence, that would help the youth to break free from the shackles surrounding them, and would enable them to enter a state of voodoo. Where their Mind’s eye devour every experience that they ever came across, in any point in life.

Theme of Writing:

  • Like Essay Competition theme of the creative-fictional writing will be given to the participants on the spot.

Time Duration:

  • Similar to essay competition, there will be two rounds of evaluation. Candidates in round one will be allocated with 1 hour & 15 min time limit. While those selected for round two will be given 1 hour & 30 min to wrap up their work.

Content Limit:

  • The content limit for round one is around 400 to 500 words. While for round two, it is from 700 to 800 words.

Prize:

  • The prize money along with shields and certificates will be distributed among the promising candidates, at the end of the competition.

GENERAL INFORMATION APPLICABLE FOR BOTH EVENTS

Eligibility:

  • The competition is open to the candidates who are the registered students of invited institutions.
  • A maximum of three students are allowed to participate from an institution-
  • One each for Essay competition in Urdu and English, and one for Creative Writing (English).

Registration fee for the event is PKR 1000/- for one person, that is PKR 3000/- PER TEAM. (Respected institutions can also compete in a single category contrary to participating in all three, namely essay writing English, Urdu and Creative writing. A single candidate cannot participate for more than one category.)

Jury

  • The Jury shall be composed of independent experts, including in the field of intellectual property.
  • The Jury will serve till the official announcement of results of the essay and creative writing competition.
  • The composition of the Jury may be changed any time, if circumstances so require.

Jury Functions

The Jury will review the entries and select the best essay/piece of fictional work, on the basis of organization & originality of thought, vivid imagination, understanding of intellectual property and relevance to the theme.
The Jury reserves the right not to award the prize if, in its opinion, none of the writings merit award.

Final Decision:           

The decision of the Jury is final and is not subject to an appeal.

Announcement of Results:

The Jury shall conclude its selection process and communicate the results to the competition officials by 14th Feb,2010.

Note:

  • Students found with any sort of written material or using mobile will be disqualified from the competition
  •  Paper sheets will be provided by Tamasha Team.
